There is no doubt that COVID 19 and it’s related variants have knocked our socks off as we try to raise funds for our various projects, keep our members engaged and fulfill our mission to assist with empowerment of women and young girls.
Yet, we do what we can to boost our community with donations for food to ATCAA, spreading baskets of food to local families in need. Did you know that in any given elementary school or high school you will find at least 75 students or more that have no food to eat over a weekend? Should this be happening in America today? It doesn’t seem possible but yet it is true. These students receive vouchers for breakfast and lunch while they are at school. Often, when home for the weekend, the cupboards and fridge are bare and it’s a long wait until Monday morning when they arrive back at school, again.
Soroptimist of Twain Harte are planning right now to prepare to adopt many local families over the Thanksgiving AND Christmas Holidays to provide food baskets that often contain enough bulk items to feed that family for 2 weeks or more.
